Frequently Asked Questions

Siri logged a plate but the location is missing

When your phone is locked, iOS does not give the app a fresh GPS reading. Switch on hands-free mode on the Hunt screen while you are driving and locations will be recorded accurately. Switch it off when you are not playing — it uses more battery.

Siri asks “which state?” instead of just logging it

Say the name on its own and it will log it. This usually happens with road noise. Speaking the state right before the app name — “add Ohio to StateSighter” — is recognized most reliably.

I claimed the wrong state

Tap the plate again — it opens that plate’s details, with a Remove button at the bottom. Iowa and Ohio catch everyone eventually.

Why can’t I tap the map to claim a state?

Deliberate. Small states are far too easy to mistap in a moving car, and an accidental claim is annoying to undo. The map shows progress; the plates below it are how you claim.

Does the app work without location access?

Yes. You can play the whole game with location switched off. Scores are less precise, because distance is estimated rather than measured, and the map of where you spotted plates will be empty.

Will my trips sync to my other devices?

Trips are stored on your device and, when iCloud is enabled, sync through your own private iCloud account. Nothing is sent to the developer.
